Last Christmas

I have three Best Christmas Ever memories.

Christmas 1972, 1975, 1972

Going to my Grandma and Papa’s house for Christmas every single year. (I don’t remember a single childhood Christmas in my own house) All the cousins came too, so when you walked into the living room on Christmas morning, the presents Santa left for everyone literally covered the entire floor. At least… that’s how I remember it.

Christmas 2000, 2004, 2008

The year my husband Bob and I got the lava to flow in our son’s Hotwheels Through Hawaii rad track. It took hours to put together. Bob WOOHOO’d so loud when we finally got it to work that we woke Ben. It was just after midnight so Christmas happened a little early for us that year. We stayed up most of the night pretending it was Christmas morning but still trying to inconspicuously sneak in a nap.

Christmas 2015, Lake Tahoe

And this one. Christmas 2017. Our last Christmas living at home together. Our first Christmas at home at all in many years. We went to see Star Wars, it’s kind of our thing…ever since he was a little boy using The Force to open elevators.

For now, we live in the place that holds our hearts and I am taking the time to soak it all in. Ben got everything he asked for from Santa and he has been surfing and fishing every single day of his break. He has a sweet and loyal girlfriend, the best bestfriends in the world, a family who adores him, a bright future and a place on a map he can always call Home. What a life. I hope one day he remembers it all the same way I do.

Christmas 2017

As for me, the things that make me happy can’t be bought anymore. I’ve raised a good man and our bond is solid. Those are my greatest gifts from God.

2017 was a blessed year for both of us and we are thankful. All I ever ask for Christmas now is that my child grow up and be in love with his life, like my parents probably wished for me, too. Like them, I think my wish came true.

 Merry Christmas to everyone,
and Happy New Year 2018!
