What’s Coming Up?

When a writer like myself finally finds her groove, the projects pile up in my imagination like a week’s worth of laundry!

I can’t wait for you to get your hands on my next book. I am honored to be collaborating with a true American hero as he and I march through the last one hundred years of American history as we tell the story of his extraordinary life. He is a bona fide Forrest Gump. Capt. Allen Brady painstakingly detailed his experiences on a  series of legal pads and he and I have worked together tirelessly to bring those handwritten notes to life. You will be inspired, you will be humbled and you will be amazed and honored to know that there are still some Great Men in the world. “Where Do We Get Such Men” by Capt. Allen C. Brady (USN-R) is slated to be finished by Summer 2017!

I also have two novels in the works! Fiction has become my hot new pursuit and I never dreamed that for a rigidly linear thinker like me, simply making things up completely out of thin air could be so fun. First, I’m in the research stages of the gripping and suspenseful Uninvited, a book whose ideas have been swirling around in my head since my college days listening to the Alanis Morissette song by the same name. I’ve always wanted to be a hero so in tackling the topic of human trafficking, I get to write my wish-I-were story about a close-knit circle of young girls in poverty-stricken Sao Paulo, Brazil and of the teacher who must protect them. At the center of the drama is a widow, Erin, who finds herself running from her own life. She is battling not only the demons from her traumatic past but she is also trying to disappear into a strange and mysterious new part of the world where she can start fresh. She finds herself doing volunteer work with a local orphanage, trying to preserve and guide the futures of ten vulnerable girls scarred by generations of exploitation in the sex trade. As she ties herself to their lives and tries to alter their destinies, she finds that she must first take ownership of her own in the process, and she must admit the truths of her choices as her old life and her new life crash into each other, especially as she finds herself face to face with the lords of the sex trade who want her out of the way. Look for it for Christmas, 2018!

Then there’s Kiki, an agonizing tale about a family ripped apart after a gruesome, unprovoked attack. As they heal from their physical and emotional wounds and try to piece together what caused a young boy to snap, they are forced to examine their secret pasts. They must revisit the horrific events that happened to their family decades earlier, things no one talks about anymore, beginning with a love story set in revolutionary Cuba. In the midst of the Cold War, when a young family tried to flee the horrors of communism for a new life in America, they lost one of their children during their escape.  What haunted them in their attempts at a fresh, new start in America were the costs and consequences of what they left behind when they fled Castro’s terror. The family’s worst fears now seem to be coming true and the sadnesses committed so many years ago are about to play out in front of their eyes. It’s a story about choices, about deciding when to test fate and about knowing when you must tell the truth in order to protect the ones you love. A sad, complicated, gripping and beautiful family love story, Kiki shows us the enduring meaning of unconditional commitment and the ties that bind even when a family is being ripped apart.

I am so excited to be creating! If you are a Creator too, get out there and finish those masterpieces!
